Twelve Czech films will be presented in various sections of FilmFestival Cottbus which starts today. Moreover, the Czech Republic is this year for the first time part of the U18 Youth Film Competition section of the festival and two Czech films will compete for the prize of 3000 EUR.
German-Polish-Czech competition section U18 of FilmFestival Cottbus (November 8 - 13), will include Petr Oukropec's festival hit In your Dreams! which was premiered at Berlinale and Martin Jelínek's debut Road-Movie premiered at Tallin Black Nights Film Festival last year.
As for the non-competitive sections, Petr Zelenka's absurd comedy Lost in Munich and Dan Příbáň's documentary Trabant - From Australia to Bangkok will be shown among National Hits and Vladimír Michálek's TV series Mamon produced by HBO in Spectrum section.
Specials will explore this year the topic of historical identity fractures in Central Europe and for that reason, the festival's programmers selected Tomáš Luňák's animated film Alois Nebel, Tomáš Mašín's comedy Wilson City, Mark Ther's short film Plums or Jan Schmidt's The End of August at the Hotel Ozone from 1966. The documentaries screened in the section include few older titles such as Kytlice, Zimmer Frei by Rozálie Kohoutová, Mein Kroj by Martin Dušek or Slovak-Czech co-production Felvidék. In addition, the Czech film project Hornet in a Bottle will be presented at co-production market Connecting Cottbus by the director Vít Zapletal and the producers Mikuláš Novotný and Radim Procházka from Background Films.
