Trapped with her grandmother, who suffers from dementia, during the Russian invasion of eastern Ukraine, Masha (29) is forced to confront the buried secrets of her family’s past.
Visual artist Masha (29) returns with her fiancé Mitya (30) to her hometown in eastern Ukraine to visit her grandmother Eva (77). The next morning, Russia invades and the town falls under occupation. With no way out, the three are trapped in Eva’s house. As her dementia progresses, the line between past and present begins to blur: she mistakes Russian soldiers for Soviets and sees her long-lost love Kolia in Mitya. While war unfolds outside, Masha uncovers a family history that shakes her sense of identity. Old letters, photographs and documents challenge everything Eva told her about her mother’s death. Masha must decide whether knowing the whole truth matters more than the stories that allow us to survive.
