A portrait of a remote British Columbia community struggling to survive escalating wildfires and growing violence. Could reconnecting with wild nature hold the key to survival?
The film follows a Czech director through British Columbia, one of the most sparsely populated regions in the Western world, where wildfires have become a permanent condition of life. Substance abuse and violence mark the territory, leaving traces of absence everywhere: burned forests, logged hills, roads lined with posters of missing women. Yet locals are resilient, some seeking stronger community, others retreating deeper into the forest, holding onto an off-grid life. Moving through intersecting lives, the film builds a layered portrait of a landscape shaped by survival and loss. In this terrain, orientation is not only physical but existential, how to move through a world where the ground keeps shifting, and survival depends on knowing who you are in relation to it.
