The longitudinal observational documentary Up Again follows several years in the life of a young athlete in a world where a person’s value can easily be measured by results, scores, and rankings. Without commentary or explanation, the film captures moments of training, doubt, interruption, and the search for a way back. Gradually, a story about the pursuit of sporting success becomes an intimate coming-of-age portrait and a search for one’s own relationship with performance. What happens to a young person growing up in an environment where results are expected of them? How can they develop a healthy relationship with performance, the expectations of others, and their own success and failure?
