The film was produced by FAMU Prague – Centre for Audiovisual Studies (CAS) and is distributed worldwide by Czech distribution company CINEFILA. The world premiere took place at Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in July 2026.

During the official Student Academy Awards® presentation ceremony, held at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 14, 2026, Volklore will receive either the Gold, Silver or Bronze Medal.

This year, the Student Academy Awards competition received 2,972 entries from 894 colleges and universities worldwide which only highlights the success of another Czech film within this prestigious competition.

Historically, it is already the fifth Student Academy Award granted to a Czech film—the previous ones being a short Tarantino-inspired genre film The Compatriot by Pavel Sýkora and Viktor Horák in 2024, an intimate puppet animation Daughter by Daria Kashcheeva in 2019, a fungus-filled imaginarium Who’s Who in Mycology by Marie Dvořáková in 2017, and a humorous mockumentary Oil Gobblers by Jan Svěrák in 1989.

Several Czech and Czechoslovak student films were also nominated for the student Oscar in the past: The Fever of a Weekday (dir. Miloš Zábranský) in 1982, Bloodthirsty Hugo (dir. Aurel Klimt) in 1997, Test (dir. Václav Švankmajer) in 2000, and Peacock (dir. Ondřej Hudeček) in 2016.

All Student Academy Award-winning films are eligible to compete for 2026 Oscars® in the Animated Short Film, Live Action Short Film, or Documentary Short Film category.
