The fact that literature and film complement, inspire, and enrich one another is confirmed by the program for the Czech Republic’s Guest of Honour appearance at the upcoming Frankfurt Book Fair, running October 7 to 11, 2026. In addition to the Book-to-Screen at KVIFF project—which took place for the first time this year at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival thanks to the collaboration between the festival, the Frankfurt Book Fair, Svět knihy, and the Moravian Library in Brno, with support from the PPF Foundation—the Guest of Honour program will also feature film program. Thanks to the Czech Film Center/Czech Audiovisual Fund, a delegation of Czech film producers will travel to Frankfurt to visit the fair and to meet local film industry.
A five-member delegation of producers from the Czech Republic will travel to Frankfurt, with an interest in book adaptations and, more broadly, in the intersection of the literary and audiovisual worlds. The program includes meetings between Czech and Hessian producers, a location tour, an informal networking evening titled Books at Berlinale x Hessen Film & Medien, the Book to Screen professional program focused on the intersection of the literary and audiovisual worlds, and a guided tour of the Frankfurt Book Fair, including a visit to the Czech pavilion and the program celebrating the Czech Republic’s status as Guest of Honour.
The event is organized by the Czech Film Center, an international division of the Czech Audiovisual Fund, in cooperation with the Frankfurt Book Fair, Hessen Film & Medien, the Berlinale, and the Moravian Library.
Members of the delegation are: Petr Bílek (FilmBrigade), Kateřina Malečková (Bez předsudků), Silvie Michajlova (Film Kolektiv), Hugo Rosák (Stairway Films), Kristýna Milaberská (AZN kru), and Markéta Šantrochová (Czech Film Center).
Czech Film Center already organized a delegation of producers to the Frankfurt Book Fair back in 2025 in preparation for this year's landmark guest appearance.
The film program at Frankfurt Book Fair will offer the world premiere of the documentary I’d Stake My Life on a Word about Czech writer Radka Denemarková, and the docuseries Landscape of Literature, in which Czech writer Jaroslav Rudiš meets with contemporary Czech authors.
As part of the accompanying program, the cinema at the German Film Museum in Frankfurt am Main, in collaboration with the Národní filmový archiv, is organizing a series focused on the artistic dialogue between writer and poet Bohumil Hrabal and director Jiří Menzel—screenings of the films Closely Watched Trains, Larks on a String, and I Served the King of England. The film series will open with the feature film Leaving, directed by Václav Havel, and will be complemented by a documentary about Villa Tugendhat in Brno.
The fair will also feature a film adaptation of Kateřina Tučková’s book Gerta Schnirch, which will have its German premiere on ARTE on the eve of the Frankfurt Book Fair.
