Time and water slowly wear away the stone of Kateryna’s faith in the future. Living as an emigrant in Prague, she returns to memories of a place where she felt at home: the years with her Ukrainian friends at the Sea of Azov. But the full-scale invasion of Ukraine keeps washing away everything she holds dear. Her hometown, Zaporizhzhia, lies near the frontline, the family house by the sea is occupied, and her childhood friends have dispersed. These memories live on in hours of her personal video archive. Now, with friends in Prague, she tries to make sense of the grief and loss they carry, asking what the future holds and how to keep polarisation from occupying the space of friendship. Water Wears Away is a film about belonging and the fragile bonds that survive as the world falls apart.
