Love is both the cause and the reason why the famous writer Abel Znorko, a Nobel Prize winner in Literature, lives far from people and civilization. He has retreated from the world to escape love, to hide from it, to deny its power. In the solitude of his luxurious log cabin surrounded by forests, meadows and groves, he indulges in the pleasures of life, yet at the same time finds himself drowning in his own loneliness. One day, Nicolas Gobert appears at his door. An alleged journalist from a rather insignificant regional newspaper, he has travelled all the way from France to interview the arrogant author about his latest novel, Denied Love — a book composed of intimate love letters addressed to a mysterious woman identified only by the initials H. M.
