The documentary film Because I Have To evocatively captures the personality of world-renowned artist Miloš Šejn (*1947). This physical cinematic experience raises questions about the way we exist, human perception, and our relationship to nature, time, and place. In contrast to the fragmentation and chaos of today’s world, it offers viewers a space to pause—for personal meditation on the fundamental relationship with the environment in which we live. The essential depth and destiny of Šejn’s actions reflect the boundaries of madness as well as the diversity of the forms of love and knowledge of the ultimate truth—death. The unique audiovisual composition of captured performances and video art by Miloš Šejn reveals the essence of the ecstatic creative activity of one individual—rooted in the present moment and a detailed perception of the world around us. The contemplative experience of the film gives the audience the peculiar feeling of perceiving the here and now, which opens up the possibility of seeing the world in a different way than we are used to in the everyday noise of information.
